Eastern Region Careers Day

Inaugural Careers Fair for students in the Eastern Region

The Cambridge Campus was proud to host an inaugural Eastern Region Careers Fair funded through the legacy of VETNETLLN, a National Network of Veterinary schools, Universities and Colleges committed to providing opportunities for students on vocational courses to get into Higher Education. VETNET LLN was established to increase opportunities for vocational learners to progress into veterinary and animal related higher education.
The students targeted at this event were those studying animal or equine subjects at Land based colleges within East Anglia. Otley, Easton, Oaklands, Writtle and Shuttleworth were all invited to send students and staff to meet employers and organisations.
The National Stud, RSPCA, Royal Vet College, The Blue Cross and the British Racing School were all represented and gave presentations to groups of students about career opportunities across the sector.
CWA students were also in attendance with Agricultural students conducting very popular campus tours!
Visiting students were able to handle a range of animals in the recently opened Endeavour building, home of the newly created Cambridge Veterinary Nursing Academy (CVNA), and watch demonstrations on the Equine Aqua Treadmill in the Equine Therapy Centre.
Over 250 students from across the Eastern Region enjoyed a very aspirational day; they clearly enjoyed the free lunch! and were heard to comment on the impressive range of facilities, animals and equipment at the Cambridge Campus as well as the friendly staff and students - well done to all concerned.
Alison Barber, Cambridge Campus Director has recently been elected to the National Council for VETNET LLN in the role of the Eastern Region representative. Alison is therefore able to put the campus forward to host events of this type.
The next planned is an Equine Staff sharing good practice day in July, where the focus will be on increasing the commercial focus of the equestrian facilities at colleges from the Eastern Region and exploring joint equine research opportunities.
